 Rehabilitation Project
Project Overview

Many children and adults in India suffer from various physical as well as mental disabilities. Rehabilitation centers work to help mentally handicapped, visually impaired and drug addicted people back to normal lives. Asia Horizon cooperates with the rehabilitation centers to provide counseling and training to help disabled people become self-sufficient. Serving physically and mentally handicapped people is not only rewarding. According to the Hindu religion, it is also a sacred duty. Helping hands change the lives of these needy people.

Activities as a Volunteer

Your activities will vary according to your skills and the level of disability of the people in rehabilitation centers. You will generally engage in counseling, teaching and skill training. You may teach computer skills, drawing, painting, handicrafts, health, hygiene, and therapeutic aid. You can prepare meals, work with administration and in the field. If you can sew, knit or have other practical skills you are welcome to share these. Volunteers can also assist blind people or people with weak vision by reading textbooks aloud so they can prepare for exams and providing moral support. You will work 8-10 hrs a day.

Project Qualifications

There are no specific qualifications required. You must be at least 18 years old and should have knowledge of spoken English for volunteering. You should be flexible, creative and self-motivated with an open mind to learn about a new culture and religion. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required for this project.

Food and Accommodation

Asia Horizon arranges a separate room along with a communal bath for volunteers in both the host families and hostel accommodations. During the first week of language and cultural immersion program, you will stay at our hostel in Bangalore where cook prepares a variety of Indian food (Nan, curry, Dal, chapatti, rice and pickle). During your volunteering programs in Bangalore, a host family provides your accommodation and food. However, volunteers joining orphanage program stay with the children in a hostel. The families are very friendly and hospitable and look forward to learn more about your culture and country. They provide local food three times a day. Our country coordinator will welcome you at the airport and introduce to the host family and the host organization. You will also have 24/7 access to our contact person and phone number of our coordinator.
