Seniors need mental as well as physical support and almost constant care. Old age home provides shelter, care, therapeutic aid and counseling to the needy senior citizens of India. You can use your energy, skills, and time to brighten the day for the elderly people in this home. This project warmly welcomes those who have love, respect and compassion for the old and want to help make their life worth living.
Volunteer Activities
As a volunteer, you will help the elderly residents with cooking and serving meals and also entertain them by singing, reading aloud, general fun. You can share any sort of useful skill. You will also help with therapeutic activities and provide them basic care.
Project Qualifications
There are no specific skills or qualifications required. You must be at least 18 years old and should have knowledge of spoken English for volunteering. The basic requirement is genuine interest and openness to learn and serve older people. Prior experience/knowledge about nursing/care of elderly people will be an advantage.
Food and Accommodation
Asia Horizon arranges a separate room along with a communal bath for volunteers in both the host families and hostel accommodations. During the first week of language and cultural immersion program, you will stay at our hostel in Bangalore where cook prepares a variety of Indian food (Nan, curry, Dal, chapatti, rice and pickle). During your volunteering programs in Bangalore, a host family provides your accommodation and food. However, volunteers joining orphanage program stay with the children in a hostel. The families are very friendly and hospitable and look forward to learn more about your culture and country. They provide local food three times a day. Our country coordinator will welcome you at the airport and introduce to the host family and the host organization. You will also have 24/7 access to our contact person and phone number of our coordinator.
