Asia Horizon is continuously working for the welfare of children in the close collaboration with several Indian Community organizations to provide support for the destitute children at the orphanages. As a child care volunteer in India, you can make a great difference in the life of orphans and destitute children
Project Information
India has millions of children who are born and raised in the streets. It is estimated that 47% out of 55 million children are orphans in India and among them 90% of them are girls. Those helpless children are starving for a bright day, as a matter of fact they are ruining themselves with various dangerous activities such as robbing, prostitution, stealing, abusing and so on. Now in India, various social organizations and orphanages play an important role in providing these orphans food, shelter, education and vocational training. The orphanages face many obstacles as they lack basic facilities, competent staff and adequate educational materials.
Asia Horizon works to provide these destitute children with an opportunity to live and learn in a homey environment. We cooperate with several partner organizations to provide informal education, health care and creative activities to the destitute children. Our participants in orphanages share their hope, compassion, patience and encouragement with the children. These children need love, care and education and we also have the aim to protect and restore their basic rights and enrich their situation by improving access to reasonable basic humanitarian living, healthcare and education and as a volunteers you can be the reason to develop their potential and learning skill which will enable them to become self sufficient, giving them the brighter future and providing the path for the better society. The enormous satisfaction for helping disadvantages children will be truly pleasurable.
Volunteer’s Activities
As a volunteer, you will mainly teach the children and help them to develop useful skills. Other tasks depend on the orphanage and the volunteers’ skills and interest. You will work with small groups; teach games, art, sports, and music. Although this is not an English teaching placement, you will have the opportunity to teach English during your stay in the orphanage. You may also help with homework, meals and personal hygiene and lend a hand with other odd tasks. If you are skilled in sewing, painting, tailoring, crafting, typing or computing, you can teach these skills to the children as well. The orphanage centers run by our partners accommodate 50-70 boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 14. Volunteers are always encouraged to provide emotional support to those children, though you can’t be their real parent; you can play the role of the family members.
