Brief introduction of Nepal for the volunteers

Discover a fabulous country with magnificent scenery, enchanting beauty and enormous cultural experiences. Nepal is a landlocked country bordering China and India, dominated by the world's most imposing eight of the ten highest peaks including Mount Everest, the tallest one. The climate varies considerably, depending on heights. From May to October is monsoon season, when rain falls on the Terai and snow on the Himalayan peaks. The rich cultural spirit that represents a unique blend of Buddhism and Hinduism, the birthplace of the Buddha, more than a dozen world heritage sites - this is Nepal and it has something astonishing to enjoy for everyone. This small but hospitable country has become an extremely popular destination for travelers, whether they are in search of climbing challenges, serving local communities or spiritual enlightenment. Nepal is the melting pot of diverse people and culture, more than 101 ethnic group and 93 spoken languages. Nepalese people are most hospitable people in the world and they are very helpful, kind, understand western culture and provide the respect to all the foreigners. Wherever you go, you will find people greeting you by placing hands together in a praying like gesture and say “Namaste” which means hello. Nepalese are well known for their hospitality with the respected saying ‘aateehee deva bhawa’ which, means guests are equal to God and they are very cooperative and friendly.

Despite its rich culture, geography and history, Nepal is still relatively underdeveloped. The literacy rate and health conditions in rural areas are poor and deficient compared to urban life. The social status of women is lower than of men. Asia Horizon has taken the initiative to improve the situation of women, orphans, rural communities and wildlife through our volunteer programs in several fields such as teaching in schools and monasteries, helping poor children in orphanages, women empowerment, traffic management, community development, construction and renovation of schools and orphanages. To implement its programs effectively Asia Horizon cooperates with various social organizations including Rural Community Development Program-Nepal (Rcdp-nepal).
