Over 80% people live in rural areas where geographic, economic and cultural barriers limit basic medical care. Most medical facilities are available in urban areas. Poor rural people only go to hospital when they are seriously ill, and the treatment is very expensive, so many poor people die untreated. Women and children are victims of curable diseases. Nepali women have many children from a young age and resume work too soon after childbirth. Children suffer from malnutrition and the infant and child mortality rate is high.
ASIA HORIZON is attempting to start a free medical camp in Rampur, Chitwan. ASIA HORIZON organizes camps for general health check up, Free Eye Camp and Free Dental Camp to support and improve the health condition of poor community people.
Volunteer’s Activities
As a volunteer in health camp project, you will mostly help local doctors, nurses and other medical staff to treat patients. Check-ups, distribution of medicine and medical counseling are the major tasks in the medical camps. Health camps are conducted for five to seven days. Before conducting health camps, volunteers will be involved in organizing and conducting health awareness for youth clubs, women's groups, schoolchildren and other local organizations.
Project Skills Required
Volunteers will have to work in camps set in rural villages. Both student nurses and doctors are welcome in this project. Proof of qualification is mandatory to submit. Willingness to provide treatment to the local people in friendly manner is required and ability to speak local language (Nepali) is an advantage.
Food and accommodation
ASIA HORIZON makes appropriate provision for food, room and supervision for its volunteers from the very beginning of their arrival to the country. During the first week of language training program, ASIA HORIZON manages you a clean and pleasant hostel having food facility where cooks prepare a variety of Nepali food (Dal, Bhat, Curry, Bread, Pickle, Tea etc). For your convenience, they will make continental and international food as well.
During volunteers’ respective volunteering programs, a host family will provide their accommodation. ASIA HORIZON arranges a separate room along with a communal bath for volunteers in both the host families and hostel accommodations. Besides, Nepali people are extremely hospitable, warm and welcoming and volunteers are well treated wherever they go.
