Because of unstable political situation and other several reasons, thousands of Nepali children did not have the opportunity to receive a formal education and modern techniques. Your small support with this project might be the reason to fulfill their dream of good education.
Project Information
Nepal is one of the world's poorest and least-developed countries where more than 60% of people live below basic poverty line. Because of poor economic practices, the government budget for education is insufficient. That is why more than 80% of children in rural areas lack the education that could improve their life and future. Primary education is free, but government schools are often in bad repair and overcrowded, lacking basic facilities and other resources
English is an international and most important language in today’s world; it can create various other opportunities in this competitive era. Nowadays many private schools have the tendency to teach in English medium as the result children are becoming smarter and grabbing the opportunities by the means of it but in government schools, there is the system of introducing English only from grade four, neither have they qualified teachers nor good teaching techniques. Due to lack of confidence, students hesitate to speak English, but they are keen to learn from native speakers.
Asia Horizon has the mission to empower and enhance those children who often don’t get the chance of learning modern language and techniques; it welcomes the volunteers with the sacred aim of improving the destiny of those deprived children.
Volunteer’s Activities
Participants in this project will teach in public schools. As a volunteer, you help children with daily activities and homework, play with them, teach about health and hygiene, and assist staffs with administrative work and cultural exchange. Besides English, volunteers can also help in other subjects such as social science, mathematics, science, history, business, education, arts and music. You will work with children ranging in age from 6-15 in classes of about 20 to 35. Volunteers teach 2-3 hours a day, Monday to Saturday. Our staff will provide you a proper orientation and teaching materials, including a textbook for the class.
Project Skills Required
There is no educational qualification required for the volunteers teaching English in public schools. Anyone with a heart to help is welcome on this project. However, proficiency in English is required, you need to be above 18 years of age, special skills such as working with children, sports or games, painting, drawing, singing, dancing, and sewing could be very useful.
