Wildlife Rescue is the latest and most striking project that is located near Baan Talae Nork, 80kms south of Ranong city. The sanctuary is a habitat to all wild species common to Thailand such as gibbons, macaques, slow Loris, porcupine, civet cat, which are all in need of welfare and protection. The habitat provides shelter for more than 100 animals. These unfortunate animals have fallen victims to uncaring and thoughtless humans. The aim of this project is the rehabilitation and long-term care of these animals. Furthermore, this project aims to provide a sustainable program with a long-lasting result by organizing education program in wildlife and protection. The education of local people will certainly contribute to the ending of illegal hunting and promote animal rights. Volunteers as well as our full time staff run the sanctuary on a day-to-day basis.
Volunteer’s Activities
As a Wildlife Rescue volunteer, you will work a six-day week, usually for 8 hours per day. Your work includes food preparation, cleaning of cages, assisting in general animal welfare, data collecting for animals. Development of the site is ongoing and volunteers are required to become involved in whatever stage of the project is being carried out during their stay. As per their knowledge and interest, some volunteers will be engaged in our education programs to conserve animal and protect their rights.
Project Requirements
No specific experience is required. An open-mind with flexible attitude is a definite requirement for all volunteers. Volunteers are required to have had all relevant vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B, Tuberculosis (TB), Diphtheria, Rabies, Malaria, Tetanus and Japanese Encephalitis prior to starting the project. The basic command of English and good teamwork skills are encouraged. Volunteer must be over 18 years of age and in good physical health. To work in this project, volunteer requires minimum stay of 3 weeks to maximum 12 weeks. Program Starts on the first and third Monday of each month.
Arrangement of Food and Accommodation
Volunteers will be provided a good local style hut, with toilet and share room that consists of shelf, fan, mosquito net, and pillow and bed sheet. Satellite TV is provided in the main communal area. Program fee does not cover food. Food is easily available at the local market and is a good way to learn the living of Thai people. The villagers are very nice and friendly with their own peaceful and distinctive living style. It is very important to be respectful of the local culture.
