 Working in Child Development Centers
Project Overview

Many Child Development Centers are providing shelter for the deprived children in cities and factory areas in Thailand. Various groups like the local government, communities, temples or foundations are running these centers to provide services to the poor families who have underpaid jobs and are unable to send them to private nurseries. Therefore, they drop the children before they go to work and pick them up after office. In Thailand, there are four types of childcare shelters such as Baby Homes, Emergency Homes, Child protection centers and Children homes. These Homes admit children with various types of cases based on their age. Those children in Child Development Center need adequate care and protection from others. Furthermore, these centers lack substantial facilities, competent staff and sufficient educational materials.

Volunteer’s Activities

The target of this program is to deal with children (0-18 years of age) who are vulnerable of abuse and neglect, orphans, abandoned children, street children, and mentally and physically handicapped. Volunteers can help these children with activities related to day-care, physical development and various activities i.e. arts, crafts, etc. Furthermore, volunteers will assist children by telling stories, playing games and teaching conversation English. These activities are supervised and carefully assigned by staff in the placements. Volunteers will work from 9 to 4pm through Monday to Friday.

Project Skills Required

Childcare shelters have specialists to accomplish these broader objectives of child development. Although, our volunteers are not experts, they can be involved in some activities with those specialists to help and learn as well.

Arrangement of Food and Accommodation

Asia Horizon arranges a separate room along with a communal bath for volunteers in both the host families and hostel accommodations. The volunteer will live with a host family during volunteering. They provide Thai food three times a day and rice is the basic food. The families are very friendly and hospitable and look forward to learn more about the volunteer's culture and country. Our country coordinator will welcome the volunteer at the airport and introduce him/her to the host family and the host organization. Volunteer will also have 24/7 access to our contact person and phone number of our coordinator.

Project Location

It is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, near the Gulf of Thailand. Bangkok is the populous city in the world and magnet for travelers escaping turmoil in their homeland. The city is a major economic and financial center of Southeast Asia. The city's wealth of cultural sites makes it one of the world's most popular travel destinations.

Chiang Mai is a beautiful city enclosed by hills and mountains, streams, lakes, waterfalls, caves, forests and green fields. Others places of interest include Chiang Mai Zoo, Sankamphheng Industrial Area, Mae Sa Valley, Doi Pui National Park, Tribal Villages etc. Shopping centers, famous night markets, hospitals, Chiang Mai University are in accessible distance. Other placements are located at the historical area of Ayutthaya, a world heritage site; Ang Sila, a fishing village which is about 5 km away from Chonburi provincial town and Pong village, situated just outskirts of city.
