English Teaching in School

Project Overview

Open to all enthusiastic helping hands, Asia Horizon volunteer program in Tibet focuses on language learning, orphanage service and English teaching projects. Tibet provides a vast canvas for volunteers to learn unique Buddhist culture, non-violence philosophy of Buddhism, lovely people and the world's most rapidly transforming economy. Near the cultural capital of Lhasa and the world-famous Potala Palace, we will start Tibetan language, engage in orphanage and school project and become a part of the local community.

Asia Horizon aims to provide knowledge of English to Tibetan children through international volunteers. To meet our goal we are cooperating with various schools in Lhasa. As a volunteer, you will engage in teaching English to the destitute and disabled children in School. The school staffs will support and advise the volunteers and provide syllabus to follow. You will have an opportunity to learn and experience Tibetan culture while teaching local students.

Your Responsibility as a Volunteer

As a volunteer, you will engage in teaching English to the destitute and disabled children in School during the day. You may also be expected to perform other activities in school like, sanitation, sports, art and music. You will usually teach English to the children aged from 5-13 years. You will work two to three hours a day for five days a week. In Tibet, the level of English is very poor, so English teaching is really a challenging and rewarding job. Hence, volunteers can make a difference in the lives of both the students and the teachers. In the morning and evening, volunteers can work in orphanage.

Project Skills Required

No specific skill and knowledge are required. However, you must be at least 18 years old and should have knowledge of English for volunteering. In addition, you should have genuine interest, love and passion for serving poor kids. You should also be flexible, committed to work, open minded and self-motivated to learn and serve to the needy children of Tibet. You will be given language and cultural orientation before your project begins.

Accommodation and Supervision

During your project, you will stay in a hotel or a tent in the village (not with a host family, as local authorities in Tibet do not allow it). Our country coordinator will welcome you and introduce to the project. You will also have 24/7 access to our contact person. During this time, participants will spend their valuable time working with impoverished, needy and underprivileged orphan children and getting experience of working with them. You will have sufficient free time to hike in rural areas, participate in local cultural program and interact more with rural Tibetans.

Project Location

Asia Horizon projects in Tibet are located near the cultural capital of Lhasa and the world-famous Potala Palace. You will start Tibetan language and cultural program, engage in orphanage and school project and become a part of the local community. During your free time, you can explore the splendid monasteries, vivid sculptures and solemn stupas that reflect the devotion towards the supreme Buddha. Fascinating rural villages, amazing cultural setting, warm and welcoming people and wonderful landscapes are located nearby our project. Enjoying the local food and dancing with wonderful Tibetan people leaves you a life long memory.
